"The Twain" Trolley Tour

On Friday October 8, 15 and 22 the Twain tours will focus on works by Lauren Bon and the Metabolic Studio that are indexical of Strawberry Flag: a revisionist vision of the American flag as a self-sustaining system, which has been raised at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration since July 2009.

Beginning at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), where BLDG. 209: Garden Folly is currently installed as part of EATLACMA: a yearlong investigation into art and politics, the tours will proceed to the artists’ downtown studio on North Spring Street before returning to LACMA on the Twain. Along the way the artist and her guest conversationalists will narrate the route and consider these objects in relation to both the Metabolic Studio's practice and to metabolic sculpture per se.

We hope that artists, veterans, and activists will get on board this special Twain series to discuss issues raised by the artworks in the context of the City of Los Angeles.

Strawberry Flag is a revisionist vision of the American flag as a self-sustaining system raised by Lauren Bon and the Metabolic Studio at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration (WLA-VA) from July 2009 to October 2010. An artwork in the form of a veterans’ program, Strawberry Flag nurtured reclaimed strawberry plants with an experimental aquaponic system using salvaged water and fish.

The Twain will leave LACMA at 1pm and return to the museum at 3:30pm. Seats will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so please RSVP to info@metabolicstudio.org
